Introduction to advertising: blog task


                                                             Skittles Advert Analysis: 

                            

1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention? For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do this.

Picture: The picture of the skittles product shows us how it looks. The picture will stick in the Audiences mind if they were to buy it in the shop.

Logo: The skittles logo is big the logo is the name, and it is colourful. The word skittles sounds playful and friendly as well. 

Background: The background is clouds and it may show that you will be on cloud 9 whilst eating it, conveying how tasty the product is. There is also a colourful rainbow of skittles which may imply that their too good to be true.

Slogan: The slogan 'Taste the Rainbow' is a metaphor which refers to the rainbow being the skittles and how good they are.

Colour Scheme: The colour scheme is multicoloured showing each skittle will take you through a different emotion. 

2) What is the USP (unique selling point) for Skittles and how do you know? Does the advert use any of persuasive techniques listed above?

The USP is the rainbow and the multicoloured colours and it stands out and helps people understand how great the product is.

The picture of the Dairy Milk shows us how the product looks like, so you can find it in the shops. The word chocolatey makes it sound out of the world, reminding people and craving them for chocolate. 
The picture of the Alien also shows that it is out of the World that even Aliens like their chocolate.

The Logo is really posh making it seem as if the chocolate is rich and has a high quality taste.

The background features a purple colour which may have connotations of rich and again good quality.

The slogan makes readers want chocolate and the words more chocolatey ,which is in larger font, shows that it is one of the best out there.

Here the USP would be the high rich and classy type of font and colour mixed in with the alien which conveys that Dairy milk is for every age and person.
