Real Statement Of Intent
The title of my magazine is "Redemption Writes A New Chapter." The storyline follows Robin Singh Hood, a rising TikTok celebrity who confronts his past mistakes and uses his platform to advocate for the homeless. The ideology behind this narrative is to challenge how even famous people have made mistakes, yet it is significant to identify their personal growth and social responsibility. The double page spread explores how Hood's journey from theft to promoting social responsibility reflects how media will predominantly always convey the best parts (the theft), yet leave out his redemption. Hood also writes a book ' A heart for the Homeless' to not only encourage assisting the vulnerable, but to also encourage fixing past mistakes.
My protagonist, Robin Hood, subverts the typical influencer stereotype by showing his vulnerability and past mistakes. This challenges the dominant theory that celebrities are perfect. Through the use of binary oppositions: Fame vs failure, selfishness vs selflessness, I aim to create a narrative that resonates with the young and misguided audiences. These groups may relate to Hood's regretful decisions and may be inspired by his transformation.
I will use Blumler and Katz's uses and Gratifications theory, to build a personal identification between Hood and the audience through emotional and relatable experiences, which Hood will share in his interview. The hoodie becomes a symbolic prop, representing warmth and redemption. Prop is a part of mise-en-scene which also shows how Hood has left a significant part of him and shows change.
The main colour scheme is red and white to portray redemption as red has connotations of evil. This conveys his past sins which are now washed away with the innocence of the colour white. The consistent colour scheme conveys that overcoming and fixing past mistakes can create a good reputation and a better status. The camera shot (Medium shot) in the front cover of Robin Hood sitting down shows how fixing mistakes has meant he can fit in with the norm whilst also being a celebrity. The close up shot shows remorse and sincerity.
