YouTube released in 2005, Twitter released in 2006, Instagram released 2010

2) What is the definition of an influencer? 

A person who influence their lifestyle, opinions and behaviours.

3) Give an example of an influencer and how many followers they have. Try and add some additional information, brand associations or other statistics if you can.

Kabane Lame has over 162 million. He is on tiktock. 

4) How big is the influencer industry according to the article? 

8 billion dollars

5) What are the problems associated with being an influencer?

Hate and criticism of other viewers and they have to post consistently.  

6) Why is it suggested that audiences actually like being sold products by influencers?

They are loyal consumers of their products and like the influence, they have a personal identification with influencer (Blumer + Katz 

7) What representation of beauty is often found on Instagram or other influencer sites?

Unrealistic and untrustworthy as they can catfish there beauty. 

8) What is YOUR opinion on influencers? Are they a positive or negative influence on our society and culture? Why?

I think being an influencer depends on how entertaining your lifestyle is. It is positive if the influencers are trust worthy and have a positive impact, this is because viewers want to be like their influencers.

Read this Forbes article on how covid and TikTok have changed the influencer market in the last couple of years. What does this tell us about society and media culture - are we becoming more creative and independent or is this just another way to sell more products to more people? 


Covid and TikTok has influenced people to sell more products as during lockdown, e commerce was very popular. We are becoming independent however people may argue it has caused us to become lazy.
