Statement of Intent - Brief 2 : Magazine Print The title of my magazine is Redemption: Writes a New Chapter, a celebrity gossip and lifestyle magazine aimed at a 16 - 25 year old audience. The magazine follows the story of Hood, a rising TikTok celebrity whose past involvement in theft is presented. He talks about his past and how he redeemed himself. This magazine is designed to appeal to a young audience who will be attracted to the chaotic front cover. The magazine challenges how celebrities are often portrayed as flawless. Instead, it promotes the idea of accountability. This idea comes from the book ‘A Heart for the Homeless’ where Hood writes about his past with the homeless and how we should look after the poor, whilst also exploring the theme of redemption. The magazine conveys how celebrities should use their influence positively, which will have an impact on the youth. Robin Hood challenges the typical influencer stereotype of constant success and perfection. This challenges dominant representations and is supported through binary oppositions such as fame vs failure and selfishness vs selflessness. These contrasts help the audience understand Hood’s journey and moral change, making the narrative engaging for young readers who may relate to making mistakes and learning from them. I have applied Blumer and Katz’s Uses and Gratifications theory, particularly personal identification and emotional engagement, as the audience is encouraged to relate to Hood’s honest reflections and feel inspired by his transformation. Hall’s representation theory applies, as meaning is created through how Hood’s story is selected and presented by the media. The repeated use of the hoodie prop acts as symbolic mise-en-scene, representing warmth and redemption. The red and white colour scheme reinforces this message: red connotes danger and past wrongdoings, while white symbolises innocence and change. I used a medium shot on the front cover to present Hood as grounded and relatable, showing him as an ordinary person despite his fame. A close up shot shows his sincerity through facial expression, encouraging the audience to feel empathy and trust.
